The core of Electron’s Ethereum blockchain-based market platform is the shared asset register, which manages identity and registration of distributed grid assets (and/or meters) and their key attributes, including asset type, ownership, contractual obligations, credit generation, and performance. It features data access permissioning, know-your-customer (root of trust), provenance (stream of trust), and data integrity. Participants on the platform are qualified market participants including utilities, grid operators, energy aggregators, virtual power plant operators, storage vendors, third-party energy service providers, and large C&I energy managers. Electron’s product is a platform that facilitates asset identity establishment and maintenance; it is not a dispatch control platform, nor is it intended to be used directly by customers.

The Adjoint Smart Treasury (AST) platform uses a private, permissioned blockchain and smart contracts to enable real-time, multi-party transactions and financial settlements, improving the efficiency and auditability of transactions (through provision of timestamped data). This platform has been used for internal processes (for financial settlements across sub-organizations) at financial institutions, and the company is proposing a new, utility-focused use case for autonomously price-driven distributed energy resources (DER) generation/dispatch. The goal is to verify the integrity and reliability of DER data for the utility through use of blockchain and smart contracts for DER dispatch. Adjoint also offers the Smart Captive product for more efficient enterprise insurance.
